9 Day Historical Tour of Greece

You may choose any dates to travel on this tour.

Day 1

Arrive in Athens.  Stay at a Hotel with the view of the Parthenon.  A chance to explore your surroundings.  Athenian Dinner followed by a show of traditional Greek dancers.

Day 2

Experience a bus tour of Athens.   See Acropolis where you will visit the temple that was dedicated to the goddess Athena.  The temple is currently being restored.  Travel from Acropolis to the Temple of Zeus which has the title of being the largest temple in the Roman Empire.  A short stop at Corinth Canal which is a man made canal – a passage between the Saronic and Corinth gulfs.  Visit the ancient site of Epidaurus (amphitheatre).

Day 3

The morning commences in Nafplion, a beautiful seaside town.  Climb 999 steps to the Fortress of Palamicia.  Onto Mycenae to visit the Tholos tombs and shaft graves from the ancient civilisation.  Stop at a craft store in Olympia.

Day 4

Explore a series of ruins that represented the ancient Olympic Games and then onto a Museum.

Day 5

Visiting Delphi today – a scenic hill with towering cliffs.  We visit a Museum to see 2500 year old artefacts.  Check out the ancient ruins of the stadium.  See the original starting blocks for the atheletes’ races.

Day 6

Travel to Kalambaka and the Meteora with magical monasteries.  See seven Byzantine monasteries dating back to as early as the 11^th century.  Later in the day, visit the site of the last stand by the 300 Spartans in Thermopylae.

Day 7

Stay on Aegina Island.  A 45 minute trip from Athens.  Take in the many shops and cafes overlooking the sea.  Visit the Temple of Aphaia and Kolona where a single column remains upright amongst the ruins.  Tour includes the interior of the island to Paleochora (also known as the Ghost Town).

Day 8

See the burial mound where the 192 Athenian casualties were interred.

Day 9

In Athens, visit a Museum that has a treasure trove of priceless artefacts.  So much to see including the bronze statue of Zeus.
